A new sustainable energy system for the world
A patented process to convert biomass to green methane. European Patent
Responding to the global challenge.
Human driven changes to our climate are now well documented, and a global response will be required to contain the most damaging effects of the increase in global temperatures in the coming years. The long-term goal will clearly be to move toward a net zero carbon emission economy, and in the short-term changes to infrastructure must be made to minimize our impact as quickly as possible.
Supply of electrical power and gas for homes and industry, and transportation fuels are some of the primary drivers of climate change. A shift away from fossil fuels demands new fuel sources and storage mechanisms. We describe here an integrated process that allows for electricity generation along with transport fuels and natural gas replacement, allowing for use of existing infrastructure.
Availability of on-demand electricity production this process offers is an ideal complement to the increasing move toward other renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. These energy sources are less well adapted to ensuring continuous base load supply for our electricity grid, and the process we describe has the potential to come online quickly to ensure the stable supply of power in an electrical grid partially supplied by other renewables. The generation of a replacement for natural gas is an important step in moving away from fossil fuels due to the substantial infrastructures already in place supplying business and residential properties.

The Heptonstall Process
Our Process Delivers
On demand clean electricity generation, with the potential to store fuel.
Green Methane production to replace natural gas in home pipelines.
Bio oil production as a transportation fuel source.
Valuable byproducts of pure Oxygen, De-ionised Water, and Asphalt.
Key Stages of the Process
Biomass from wood is used as the initial fuel source for pyrolysis, creating Green Methane, Charcoal, and Bio Oil.
Electrolysis of water creating pure Oxygen and Hydrogen, with an excess of Oxygen being a valuable byproduct.
Charcoal is fed into a direct carbon fuel cell in a high purity Oxygen environment to generate electricity with the Carbon Dioxide being captured and reused.
Carbon Dioxide generated from electricity production is reprocessed, along with pure Hydrogen, using the Sabatier process to create Green Methane and deionised water.
Principal Benefits
Each stage of the process is based on well understood industrial scale processes, which we combine to realize more fully the benefits of an integrated process.
Primary fuel source is biomass from wood, which can be grown at scale allowing us to close the loop on carbon use for a net zero carbon system.
The process allows for adaptation of existing infrastructure such as transportation, electrical distribution and natural gas distribution.
Storage of energy can be done at several key stages, including biomass stockpiles, green methane and bio oil.
Sustainable energy can be defined as a form of energy that can be utilised again and again without putting a source in danger of getting depleted, expired, or vanished.
